Well. I finally did something for Creature of the Week. And I actually submitted it for the finals. Yes. It's another weird creature thing. But this was hard to pass up. An Aerial Cephalopod. Which means, well, Flying Squid/Octopus/Thing with tentacles.

Triffid

If you haven't read the 1954 book "The Day of the Triffids" I highly suggest you do so. It's an emotional, gripping Science Fiction classic depicting a terrible global outbreak of blindness, coupled with a coincidental release of a Genetically Altered crop species called "Triffids". Yes. They walk. And yes. They have a deadly 10-foot tentacle that stings you to death with one hit. And yes. It's an awesome book. And yes again, I did some fan art.

Oh, and I got my photoshop working again too.

Just to let you guys know I updated my Portfolio Page with "KINGDOM OF GNESTER" work I did. That's the name of the game demo we were working on in secret all summer. I put on a couple hacked-up spritesheets and a couple characters and desktop BG's. Enjoy.

UPDATE: Hands look better than tree stumps. So I gave him these weird paws with a pair of vestigial thumbs on the sides for a good balance.

So it's Five in the morning. "All nighter" my crew says whilst at work. What do I do? Pull the all nighter. What did they do? Go home and sleep. So what did I do?...Again? I arted it up. And verbed the word art.

Why Am I Weird?

An 11 second (ish) short I did for class.

Weird mask designs I sketched out earlier this morning. I stress the morning part of that sentence. I'm planning on doing some more character work with this gal. Some masked and some without. Its interesting, I've really taken to using Whiteout as an after-effect for making weird white patterns and highlights.

Painted this pretty much off and on today. I'll be revamping the FG elements later when I have the time.

(Update) I did a smart sharpen. Looks a little more clear. Didn't add any detail to the FG yet.

Some sketches of random faces. I used a permanent marker for the dark outline. I much like the results of...that. I just realized (on my work computer) that the sharpness is way too bad. I'll add a fixed version on soon.

I'm still recovering from the move, so I don't have my internet or a scanner hooked up. So expect some new sketches soon, and maybe (if I have time) The Hunt Pt. 2! I want to show what happens after the first one. Or at least an image similar (and better.)

The Hunt

Painting I did at school the past two days,  I guess it took about four hours altogether.

Well, the Jaloo Festival is pretty much, if not over. It was nuts, we had tons of people here, all from different places, checking out our work and demo reels and whatnot. Such a great day. I added new links on the side, some new artists as well. Willy Ashworth and Scot Caple. Check them out!

Just Painting

I was inspired by concept images from Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, one of the best looking and funniest games I've played for a while. Check it out if you want to see some great face animation.
I might go further into detail with this one, but for now the semi-final version is this. I added some deeper blues and watercolor effects on the foreground to emphasize the difference between the shadow.

Got a Job.

I got a job in Prince Edward Island working on a video game demo for four months, with Curtis and three programmers. It's going to be sweet.

In 1997, hydrophones in the Pacific recorded an unknown signal (nicknamed 'the bloop') that rose in amplitude over one minute, and was powerful enough to reach hydrophones 5000km away from the source. The frequency had the characteristics of a living creature, something estimated to be much, much larger than a blue whale. So I thought, why not make a weird monster thing based on the sound.
